RECALL FRANKEN

It's official.  The Minnesota Supreme Court has officially declared the election for the Senate a travesty worthy of Iran and the ayatollahs.  Although Coleman received more votes on election day, votes for Franken magically appeared during the recount.  We deserve honest elections.  This travesty should not be allowed to stand.  Franken should be recalled.

WAXMAN COMPARES OIL TO SALT

This is actually from the so called clean energy bill passed by the House of Representatives last night.  Couldn't someone inform Waxman that we have enormous reserves of oil and natural gas lying off the coast?

SEC. 127. OPEN FUEL STANDARD.

    (a) Findings- The Congress finds that--

      (1) the status of oil as a strategic commodity, which derives from its domination of the transportation sector, presents a clear and present danger to the United States;

      (2) in a prior era, when salt was a strategic commodity, salt mines conferred national power and wars were fought over the control of such mines;

      (3) technology, in the form of electricity and refrigeration, decisively ended salt's monopoly of meat preservation and greatly reduced its strategic importance;

      (4) fuel competition and consumer choice would similarly serve to end oil's monopoly in the transportation sector and strip oil of its strategic status

OBAMA LIED ABOUT TAXES

Remember the promise Obama made about cutting taxes for 95 percent of taxpayers?  It was a lie.  The energy bill he supports will tax carbon dioxide raising taxes for 100 percent of taxpayers and even those who don't pay taxes.  Turn on a light - you'll pay a tax.  Start your car - you'll pay a tax.  Buy a head of lettuce - you'll pay a tax.  This is just another example of why Obama's statements cannot be trusted.  He will say anything that sounds good at the time, then do the opposite.

CAIRO SPEECH GAVE GREEN LIGHT TO IRANIAN CRACKDOWN

Blame President Obama’s Cairo speech, at least in part, for the violence and bloodshed in Iran. He apologized for the prison in Guantanamo, as if the Egyptians have a model prison system. He apologized for having used enhanced interrogation techniques, which he calls torture, as if the interrogation techniques used by the Egyptians are any less “enhanced”.  By rebuking the strong and muscular foreign policy of his predecessor, he showed himself to be a weak and vacillating leader. The Iranian regime took the measure of the man and found him wanting. They knew they could steal an election and murder their own people without any consequences from this President. You have to wonder how the Iranians would have behaved if “W” were still President.

OBAMA MISREPRESENTS FEDERAL EMPLOYEE HEALTH CARE PLAN

During his news conference, President Obama suggested federal employees have a public health care option.  This is untrue.  Federal employees can select from a number of private sector health insurance companies.

BEING ALOOF ISN'T COOL

President Obama wants to be seen as cool, but there’s a difference between being cool and being aloof. His reaction to events in Iran is decidedly aloof and reminiscent of his reaction to Russia’s invasion of Georgia. Iran is showing that our young, inexperienced President is as clueless about foreign policy as he is about economics. He does not know what he is doing.

OBAMA JOKE HAD HOMOSEXUAL CONNOTATIONS

For the most part, President Obama's jokes at the correspondents' dinner fell flat.  He had one good one though.  He said he was lying awake in bed one night trying to think of things to say.  He couldn't think of anything so he rolled over to ask Brian Williams for advice.  It was a funny joke, but a little weird - and a little creepy.

OBAMA CALLS WHITE HOUSE HIS HOUSE

During his correspondents' dinner speech,  Barack Obama referred to the White House as his house.  Unbelievable.  His hubris knows no bounds.

OBAMA DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS

The other day, President Obama said a government run health care option was needed to keep the private sector honest.  This is exactly what you would expect from a committed leftist.  Competition among private sector firms is what keeps the private sector honest, not competition from the government.  The government has no bottom line.  It can lose money year after year and still remain in business.  Private sector firms cannot operate that way.  Either Obama doesn't understand economics or he is deliberately trying to destroy private sector health care.

IRAN TO OBAMA - DROP DEAD

 Obama's Egypt speech was a flop.  The election results in Iran show that America remains the great satan, at least in that part of the world.  This is a major setback for Obama.

RESTRICT THE SALARIES OF UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTS AND PROFESSORS

Now that the government is restricting the salaries of banking executives, why not apply the same standard to university presidents and professors?  There's no reason why a university president needs to make more than $300,000/year or a professor more than $150,000/year.  If a university accepts government money, either directly or indirectly in the form of student grants, the salaries of the president and professors should be limited.  Bring down the cost of college.  Restrict the salaries if university presidents and professors.

THE COMING ECONOMIC CATASTROPHE

President Obama has warned us of a pending economic catastrophe. He ought to know. He's creating one. The new programs he promised in his speech to Congress will massively increase federal spending. He promised universal health care, universal college education, subsidies for alternative energy, and more bailout money for banks and homeowners This is in addition to the money already appropriated for economic stimulus and the TARP. The result will be a deficit approaching $3 trillion. Instead of learning a lesson from the home mortgage meltdown, he has decided to employ the same economic model. Just as a person overextended himself by taking out a loan he could never pay back, Obama wants the whole country to overextend itself by taking out loans it will never pay back. The Treasury will borrow the money by selling bonds. The Federal Reserve will create money to buy the bonds and the Treasury will spend the money on all the things Obama wants to do. The government is essentially borrowing from itself with money it creates. It's a deal that would make Bernie Madoff proud. But just as there is a day of reckoning for the homeowner who took out a mortgage he couldn't afford, there will be a day of reckoning for a country that borrows beyond its means. Obama's plan to increase taxes on 2 percent of the population won't even make a dent in the mountain of debt he is piling up. All of these new spending programs will, at some point have to be paid for. That increase in taxes for 2 percent will become an increase for 5 percent, then 10 percent, then 20 percent and ultimately 100 percent. The massive expansion in the money supply will debase the currency and lead to inflation. Higher inflation will lead to higher interest rates and higher unemployment. The Obama spending binge will make the current situation much, much worse. It will give us higher prices, higher interest rates, higher taxes, and higher unemployment.

WHY OBAMA OPPOSED THE IRAQ WAR

Senator Obama would have us believe his opposition to the war in Iraq was thoughtful, prescient, insightful and wise; but it was none of those things. He provided his reason for opposing the war in a 2002 speech given at an anti-war rally organized by Chicagoans Against War in Iraq, a far left group. In his speech he said the war was an “attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the medium income - to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.” Claiming President Bush took the country to war to distract people from domestic economic issues is not a thoughtful geopolitical analysis but simply left wing paranoia. The resolution authorizing the President to use military force against Iraq passed the Senate by a 77 to 23 vote, Among those voting to give the President this authority was none other than Joe Biden, the person Obama says he will turn to for foreign policy advice. Also voting for the resolution were Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards, Diane Feinstein, Tom Daschle, Tom Harkin, Harry Reid, and Chuck Schumer. Such was the persuasive power of Karl Rove, or perhaps these Senators were also part of a conspiracy to take the public’s attention off domestic economic issues. Senator Obama is no deep thinker. He should be judged on what he actually said, not by what he says he said.

THE OBAMA TAX AND WELFARE PLAN

The Obama Tax Plan should really be called the Obama Tax and Welfare Plan. Under the plan, he will raise taxes for anyone making more than $250,000/year, maintain the Bush tax cuts for those making less than $250,000/year and send anywhere from $600 to $1,000 to anyone making less than $66,000/year, including those who don‘t pay any federal income tax. Subsidizing a person’s income by sending them a check courtesy of the federal government was once called welfare. Obama calls it a tax cut. His tax plan will not provide any lasting economic stimulus. The income subsidies the federal government sends out will be used almost entirely on consumption with very little going towards capital formation. We know the Obama plan won't work because a similar economic stimulus package implemented during the summer didn‘t work. Millions of Americans were sent tax rebate checks which were dutifully spent, typically on products made in China. There was a spike in retail sales, but after the checks were spent, the economy went back to where it was before. The stimulus provided no lasting beneficial economic impact. Similarly, the Obama tax plan will provide no lasting economic benefit. There will simply be a one or two month spike in retail sales as people earning less than $66,000/year go to Best Buy, Sears, or, heaven forbid, Walmart to spend their rebar er welfare check. After that, the economic benefit disappears. The Obama tax plan has more to do with his idea of fairness and a redistribution of wealth than with economic stimulus.

BUSH ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO CHILL OUT

The stock market was recovering from a steep 600 point drop this morning, then President Bush went on TV to reassure the markets.  The stock market promptly went into the tank.  This has been happening with disturbing regularity.  The stock market begins to recover, then someone from the Bush administration, whether Paulson or Bush or someone else comes out to tell us everything is all right, and the stock market goes into a tailspin.  Investors are understandly wary about the government's ability to solve the financial crisis.  Instead of reassuring the market, government officials are conveying a feeling of panic and a sense that they do not know what they are doing.  The market will sort out the market.  The government has done enough already.  Instead of coming up with more plans and issuing more "reassuring" statements the government should just stop and let the market digest what has already been done.
